Frizz got you down? A Keratin Complex Express Blow Out is a fantastic option for you! This service takes about an hour to an hour and a half to complete. It helps speed up blow dry time, boosts shine, and reduces frizz for up to 6 weeks!

Its always best to start off your skin care routine with a double cleanse (a method of cleansing your face twice, starting with an oil-based cleanser, followed by your regular cleanser). Acrylic Nail Launch!

Hair Solutions is now offering Acrylic Nails with our nail tech, Leah! Leah worked so hard to be able to bring this new service to you. Leah furthered her education with 15 hours of one on one classes in order to offer the best service to you. She will be offering full sets, overlays, and fills. We proudly use Young Nails Acrylic system which is MMA free and have circulation at all of our manicure tables.

Full sets:

A full set is an enhancement to the natural nail. Adding an acrylic over tips allows you to add length and strength so your natural nail can grow underneath with full protection.

Overlays:

An overlay is acrylic that is applied over the top of your natural nail without tips. This adds a strength layer to the entire nail, offering protection, so the natural nail can grow strong while maintaining a natural appearance.

Fill:

A fill is a maintenance service that is necessary to fill in the regrowth of the natural nail. The exposed natural nail will be filled with acrylic and blended with your outgrown acrylic. We recommend reserving this appointment for two or three weeks after your initial appointment. After four weeks, you would need to get a new full set.

One of the most common blonding techniques is highlighting. Highlights are a technique that creates multidimensional streaks of lighter pieces in the hair. Traditionally, highlights start at your root and can be placed to look very bold or very blended and natural. Highlights are a great way to achieve a seamless overall blonde look!

Teasy-lights are another form of a highlighting technique, however it creates completely different results. Teasy-lights are highlights that are teased to create diffusion and softness but still give a similar result. Most teasylights are placed off the scalp to give a blended lived-in look.

Balayage & foilyage are types of application that create customized, natural looking dimension. Balayage and foilyage can be used in combination or stand alone. Balayage is a technique where pieces of the hair are hand painted and customized to each guest! Foilyage is better for a guest who has naturally darker hair and is looking for brighter results. Similar to balayage, foilyage is a customized hand painted technique, but is typically applied more like a teasy-light!

What is Red Light Therapty and do I need it?

You might have heard the term red light therapy floating around and wondered “what is Red Light Therapy and do I need it?” Red light therapy is a treatment that uses low level red light wavelengths to penetrate the skin to:

-Increase cellular production, which reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and promotes youthful skin elasticity.

-Reduce inflammation, which is incredibly healing and can help treat acne.

-Boost collagen production and blood flow, which firms our skin to promote a youthful appearance. Red light therapy is beneficial for all skin types.

At Hair Solutions, we have the Celluma LED Red Light Therapy Light. The Celluma Red Light is a dome that hovers over your face. During your treatment, you will wear protective eye covering. It can be used as a stand alone service called the Celluma Skin Treatment (forty-five minute service), or added onto our Signature Facial, Aquafusion Treatment, Age Smart Facial, Dermplane, or Nano Infusion Treatment. When added onto a treatment, it adds no extra time, but enhances the benefits of the mask.

How Heat Can Damage Hair

And How to Minimize the Effects

Hot tools like blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons can all contribute to heat damage. When heat is applied to hair, it strips some of the natural oils from the hair and causes the water to evaporate. This changes the hair structure and can leave the cuticle open. When the cuticle is raised, it can lead to tangled hair and split ends.

How can we lessen the effects of heat on our hair?

Prepping the hair.

Before blow drying, prep the hair with a blow dry cream or spray that has heat protection. Redken’s Quick Blowout spray has heat protection up to 450° and helps speed up blow dry time.

Before using a hot tool like a flat iron or curling iron, prep the hair with a heat protectant, like Redken’s Thermal Spray (previously known as Iron Shape). It has a low hold and protects the hair up to 450°.

Check the temperature.

Chicken cooks at 350°. Why would we want to use higher heat on our hair than we use on chicken? Low and slow is the way to go. Keeping the temperature low on your hot tools helps mitigate the risks of heat damage.

On October 7th thru 9th, Hair Solutions had their first ever wellness retreat, with a goal of providing us a “Pathway to Health and Happiness”. The salon was closed with the whole tribe going to the Blue Harbor Resort to enjoy a weekend of relaxation and rejuvenation after two long years after the pandemic hit.

Friday, October 7th

After arriving at the resort, a photographer came to take a tribe photo, as well as individual photos. The setting couldn’t have been more beautiful, as the moon was rising over Lake Michigan. During dinner, there was an opportunity to speak about what we were grateful for and our experiences at Hair Solutions. For about 40 minutes, members of the team spoke about their experiences, it was amazing to be a part of. After dinner was team bonding with karaoke, and the girls BROUGHT IT! The staff and other guests were cheering us on, Dawn even did karaoke for the first time!

Saturday, October 8th

Following breakfast, Dawn Carter from Summit Salons gave a phenomenal presentation, providing us with ways to live our best lives. We learned how being mindful can really change how we see things. When we have a positive mindset, we are being our true authentic selves, whereas having a negative mindset is when our ego is present, and we let our thoughts and our stories dictate how we run our lives. The stories we tell ourselves, become our reality. For example, our ego says “I’m a victim of my circumstance” and our authentic self says “I create my own reality”.

After our wonderful morning session with Dawn we had lunch and then gathered back with Yureesh for our second session, called “Inner Peace, Outer Prosperity”.

. In order to set boundaries, you need to identify your limits, your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional limits. When setting a boundary, you need to consider your environment, and take the emotion out of it.

“An idea is only an idea until it makes its way into the physical world.” A daily debrief is a brief journaling at the end of the day to document how the day went.

Extensions Q & A; All You Need to Know Before Getting Extensions!

Q: Who is a good candidate for extensions?

A: You can get extensions for many reasons. The most common reason is wanting thicker fuller hair, or longer hair. Another great reason to get extensions is to enhance your color, or give you a haircolor your hair might not be able to achieve. An example would be if you're looking to feel blonder but your hair can’t necessarily achieve that desired blonde, adding a few rows of that goal color can create a seamless blend without having to compromise your natural hair. A more customizable option would be if you need to add thickness in only certain spots. For example, if you have a bob but the hair around your face is thin, making your bob undefined. Adding a tape in on each side will create that fullness that is lacking there and give your bob more shape.

Interview with Owner, Dawn Panfil

-What inspired you to get into cosmetology?

I was a sophomore at Eisenhower High School in New Berlin and one day I picked up a pair of scissors and started cutting my friend's hair, it came very naturally to me. I went to Barber School at MATC in MKE and started my career. I served a 2 year apprenticeship at Marinello's Hair Design in West Allis, andI grew my craft there for 14 years from 1979 thru 1993.

-When did you know/decide you wanted to become a salon owner?

I never had dreams of being a salon owner and one day a beauty sales rep told me of a small 3-chair 650 sq ft studio available for sale a few blocks away. I casually stopped by to meet the owner Chris and decided to take a chance as a business owner. I was a very good stylist but knew nothing about being a business owner. On Oct 11, 1993 Christopher Columbus Day or a "Day of New Discoveries" in my case, I opened my first salon. I grew a strong business in West Allis for 9 years that included 3 employees.

-How many employees did you start off with at the New Berlin location?

It was time to move to a bigger location and I had my sights set on New Berlin, my home town where a big sign in the dirt by a realty company caught my eye. A new mall was going to be built by the new Target Store. Not knowing anything about new construction or upscale leasing I contacted the agent in summer of 2001 to begin my next journey to rent 1500 sq ft in a yet-to-be built mall. Rent would be 3 times my current rent, that alone was nerve racking to me but nothing like the event on Sept 11, 2001 when the world changed as we knew it. Our clients were losing their jobs or their husbands were. I was set to sign my lease in Nov of 2001 and nearly backed away from the entire deal with all the uncertainty. had it not been for the advice of my financial advisor to just do it. My fear was very real and I was sick to my stomach walking into the real estate office to sign the lease, yet I marched forward.

Just as we change our wardrobe for the seasons, we should be changing our skincare too! The winter weather is brutal here in Wisconsin. The wind and cold wreaks havoc on our skin. Here are five easy tips to keep your skin hydrated and looking amazing all winter long.

1. Stay Hydrated. Keep your skin hydrated from the inside out by drinking enough water. According to the Mayo Clinic, women should drink about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of water a day, and for men, 15.5 cups (3.7 liters). This is a double hitter, as this helps us look AND feel good!
2. Use a SPF. Yes, really, even when it is -12 degrees outside, you should still use a SPF. The sun reflects off the snow which can cause sunburn in the winter and double your exposure to UV rays. Simply apply your SPF after your moisturizer.
3. Change your cleanser. If you are using a gel cleanser, like Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel, consider switching to a creamy cleanser like the Intensive Moisture Cleanser. Gel cleansers are typically more drying, whereas creamy cleansers are more moisturizing. Overnight treatments. Have dry or cracked hands or feet? Try using a thick moisturizing lotion and then putting on cotton gloves or thick socks before bed. Remove them in the morning and find some relief. Overnight treatments are a fantastic way for your skin to absorb moisture without having to do a lot of work.
4. Use a humidifier. Using a humidifier overnight helps to add moisture back into the air, which the furnace takes away. This then helps add moisture back into your skin.
